alias pail are scatterbrain musicians and good friends. friendship through sound and curiosity. sometimes alias pail feels like playing fractured amateur pop songs: inherited by 80’s twee bands and nonmusik musician underground japanese counterparts like tenniscoats and maher shalal hash baz.

other times, alias pail enjoys using circuit bent instruments in their set to arrive at new sounds and speaker fry. they design and develop their own circuit bent instruments and headlined this year’s new york city circuit bending festival at eyebeam. alias pail also enjoys ambient works of brian eno and noise and tribal experimental smash up sounds like lightning bolt, ooioo, or dna, fuzzy atmospherics; anything else that falls in their lap. they like every song to be it’s own band. their sets can adapt from experimental to electronic to pop. modular approach for music making.

we would happily review any opening to perform at your venue, house/loft party, or event.

bent festival 2007 :: toys we made

alias pail is bending away with new songs for the 2007 bent festival in nyc. we plan to release a cd-r at our performance of songs, all focused on bent instruments and the subject of circuit bending. our first song to emerge is a "how to" song for beginner circuit benders:

VERSES:

sounds you made from bent electronics,
take the place with choppy robotics.
touch a board, get fuzzy responses.
short some cords, give it new phonics.

place yourself between the machine.
find some points, a simple technique.
interface. create an invention.
celebrate your noisy connection

CHORUS:

toys we made suit any age range
that's the way we use our knowledge
bend away, bend away, bend away...

alias pail creates melodic fractured pop, electronica, and experimental song; using many bent instruments along the way. for the bent festival 2007 we'd be happy to perform a short 20-30 minute set that incorporates the bent instruments we use in our recordings. we are not a hardcore bent instruments only band. we use bent instruments organically with other instruments. we'd also entertain writing more experimental/bent instrument type songs for the festival. here's some photos of the bent instruments we use (more currently in development):

alias pail :: promotion

alias pail
has been a solo project of bedroom recordings, lo-fi antics, tricking friends and roomates over the years to record. original influences came from lo-fi pop and twee pop, biggest idols being the pastels and jesus and mary chain. there is also a small element of folk in the songs, derived from artists such as woody guthrie and simon and garfunkel. alias pail is now pursuing sounds more into fragmented pop, electronica, and experimental music.

alias pail's current project has been recording original songs in japanese for a split CD with my pal foot foot, one of alias pail's favorite japanese underground bands. my pal foot foot is signed to majijick records and also run their own label, shukaak-haaksu records. the project serves as a study assignment in japanese (alias pail's favorite second language) and also to feed the fanship of the overwhelming influence of japanese underground music that plays a big part in alias pail now. artists such as nikaidoh kazumi, tenniscoats, maher shalal hash baz, and nagisa ni te all voice the similiar amateur and earnest approach to pop music that alias pail enjoys. a music video for "dollboy" is currently in production. the intent is to promo the video and japanese songs in the summer. alias pail then shall develop a laptop, loop based live sets for performances in the late summer.
